Phyllis D. Smith
Phyllis Dana Smith, 93, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2017. Phyllis was born in New Haven, CT on July 24, 1923 and raised in Kansas City, MO.
Phyllis was pre-deceased by her husband, John William Smith. In addition to the numerous friends who loved Phyllis and cherished her loyal friendship, she is survived by her children, Norman G. Michael, Jr. (Jeanette), Kevin D. Smith, Scott D. Smith (Deniese), G. Elizabeth Smith (Jesús), Curtis M. Smith (Julie), her stepdaughters, Margaret Smith and Jenifer Smith Maciel, her sister, Gloria Netherton, and her grandchildren, Alexis Smith and Sam Mabie, whom she loved spending time with.
Phyllis graduated from Syracuse University in 1944 and was an active member in her Sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta. She received a Civilian Service Award for her participation during WWII and modeled professionally as part of her career.
Phyllis loved her church, traveling, spending time with her book and bible club, cooking, and reading. Phyllis was known for her optimism, her kind heart, and always spoke well of others. She was admired by many who sought her wisdom and felt her understanding and unconditional love. She created many cherished memories that will forever be imprinted within our hearts.
Calling hours will be Thursday, June 29, 2017 from 5 to 6 pm with a memorial service at 6 pm at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 East Genesee Street, Fayetteville, NY.
Phyllis was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, Syracuse, NY, for which donations would be gratefully accepted in lieu of flowers.
In honor of Phyllis's favorite saying, "Life Is Uncertain, Eat Dessert First!” please join the family immediately following the service at The Craftsman Inn for some delicious desserts!
