Obituary for David VanMarter

David T. VanMarter

April 13, 2017

David T. VanMarter, 75, of Minoa, passed away at home on Thursday. He retired from Carrier in 2001.
Dave served as the Chief of the Minoa Fire Department from 1981 to 1985. He also served as Deputy Chief, Assistant Chief, Captain, Lieutenant, Fire Police, Vice President, Board of Director and as a mentor to many. He always remained active participating in many fund raising activities including the annual Field Days. Dave also served as a member of the Onondaga Colunty Haz-Mat Team, Onondaga County Fire Advisory Board, Onondaga County Fire Chiefs Association, Onondaga County Volunteer Firemen’s Association, Eastern Section Line Officers and FASNY. He also served in officer capacity for several regional associations, including Northern Central. He participated in many courses related to first response and fire activities and has probably forgotten more about fire and the fire service than most of us will ever know.
Dave was predeceased by his parents, David and Bernadine; brother, Terrance and son-in-law, Phillip Demazure.
Survivors: His wife of 54 years, Janet; daughters, Laura (DJ) VanLuven and Dayle Demazure; sister, Kathy (John) Cerio; brother, Timothy (Cynthia); two grandchildren, Krystal (Bryan) McCarthy and David Demazure; five great-grandchildren, McKayla, Trinity Jo, Katelynn, Joe Joe and Peyton as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and friends may call from 3 to 7 pm Wednesday, April 19 at R. H. Schepp & Son Minoa Chapel, 6530 Schepp’s Corners Road, Minoa. A funeral service will be held at 10 am, Thursday, April 20 at the funeral home.
Contributions: Minoa Fire Department, PO Box 104, Minoa, NY 13116.
