Obituary for Joan H. Dever

Joan Helen Dever, former “Aquadorable”, Screen Actors Guild Member, professional synchronized swimmer for the 1950’s Elliot Murphy Aqua Show at Flushing Meadows Amphitheater, died December 1, 2017 in Manlius, NY after a courageous battle with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. She was 84.

Joan was a progressive woman for her time. Graduating from Pelham Memorial H.S., Pelham, NY, she then earned her B.S. degree in Health & Physical Education from Brockport State University and her Masters from Syracuse University. She was the first head swim coach of the Fayetteville Manlius H.S. women’s swim team, taught and coached a variety of sports full time on Long Island before moving to Central New York with her husband.

Joan had a passion for health and physical fitness throughout her life. She was an avid competitor in golf, tennis, and swimming; was sporty, stylish, and perfected the art of conversation and friendship.

Joan was a Manlius, NY and Tequesta, FL resident and is survived by her husband of 64 years, Dr. Frederick E. Dever; daughter, Jeanne Dever Hudson of New Milford, CT; son, Frederick Jr. (Dr. Eric Czander) of Washington, D.C.; grandsons, Drew Hudson of New Milford, CT, Ryan Hudson of Liverpool, NY; and brother, John Morris (Carla Morris) of Jupiter, FL.

The burial will take place at the family plot in The Historic Kensico Cemetery, 273 Lakeview Ave, Valhalla, NY 10595.
