Obituary for Beatrice M. Petty

Beatrice M. Petty
Beatrice M. Petty, 92, of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully, with family by her side, on October 24.

Beatrice was the daughter of Frederica D. and William H. Morrison Jr. She was born in New York City, and grew up in Ossining, NY. Always musically gifted, she attended Syracuse University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Music, specifically piano and voice.

After graduating from SU in 1947, Beatrice taught music in Mexico, NY and then in Liverpool, NY. She married John E. Owens in 1949, and they moved to Fayetteville in 1950. Mr. Owens passed away in 1952. In 1955, she married Warren R. Petty.

The Pettys were inseparable for 61 years, sharing many interests including travel and a deep appreciation for Americana, as well as a love of animals - especially cats. “Bea” was also a member of the Fayetteville-Owahgena Chapter of the DAR for over 50 years and a member of Trinity Episcopal Church for more than 60 years.

Beatrice was predeceased by her husband, Warren, in March of this year. She is survived by her daughters, Beatrice (James) Hailes of Chester, NJ and Susan (Allen) Horn of Pomfret Center, CT; as well as two grandsons, William A. Wishart and Allen F. Horn IV.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 11:00 am at Trinity Episcopal Church, 106 Chapel Street, Fayetteville, NY 13066. A reception will follow in the parish hall. At the conclusion, people may gather at the Fayetteville Cemetery where the remains of Warren and Beatrice will be laid to rest.

Contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church (at the address above) or to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Avenue, 7th Floor, New York, New York 10001 (specify, if desired, that 100% of the donation should go to research).
