Obituary for Forbes S. Tuttle

Forbes S.  Tuttle
Forbes Tuttle, 93, of Dewitt, died Monday at home. Born in Syracuse he attended public schools, and graduated from Northwood School, Lake Placid NY. A member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity, he graduated Yale University (class of 1945W) with a BE degree in Industrial Administration and Engineering. He worked for Crucible Steel before joining the Mass Mutual Life Ins Co in 1948. From 1959 until 1981 his Forbes S Tuttle & Co., Inc Agency won numerous awards from MassMutual. In 1981 the MassMutual purchased his agency franchise and he and two sons became Northwestern Mutual Life agents. Since 1998 he has worked as an independent Legacy Wealth Coach.

He was the 1957 recipient of the Syracuse Junior Chamber of Commerce Young Man of the Year Award. He was president of: United Way of CNY, Syracuse Boys Club, Empire Chapter Young Presidents Organization, Syracuse General Agents and Managers Assn., Syracuse Assn of Insurance and Financial Advisors Inc., Syracuse chapter American Society of CLU and Chartered Financial Consultants. He also served as a director of: Central New York Community Foundation, Community General Hospital, and the Citizens Foundation. He was a member of the Gyro Club, Century Club, Onondaga Golf and Country Club and The Cazenovia Club.

Forbes is survived by his wife of 68 years, the former Sally Porter; four sons, John (Sunny) and Tom (Victoria) of Syracuse, D Forbes of New York City and Peter (Annette) of Nashville TN.; an exchange student, Ettore Salvatore (Alla) of Quercheta, Lucca, Italy; two brothers, John (Ann) of New York City and Richard (Sharye) of Cazenovia; 3 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; several cousins; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the many caregivers, especially Micki, Kiwi, Liz and Donna.

He was predeceased by a sister and her husband, Sally Tuttle Merrick (Richard) of Newburgh IN; a daughter-in-law, Jayne G Tuttle of Syracuse; and an exchange student, Ismael Abdel Ghaffar (Rhanda) of Giza, Egypt.

Services: 11:00 am. Saturday 12/23 in Park Central Presbyterian Church, 504 E. Fayette St., Syracuse. Calling hours 4:00 to 7:00 pm Friday 12/22 at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 East Genesee St., Fayetteville.

Contributions may be made to the Forbes Tuttle memorial fund, CNY Community Foundation, 431 East Fayette St. or a charity of your choosing.
