Howard was born on February 11, 1946 in a small town in Nassau County, Long Island. Growing up with two brothers, life was active. From his father he learned the value of the outdoors, and of fine woodworking - both had an important place in his life to be. From his mother, he was introduced to medicine, as she was an RN. Music and singing were an early and on-going outlet for his soul. Animals were always on center stage in his life, usually rescued and frequently injured. College (BS in Chemistry) at St. Lawrence University, followed by medical school at the University of Southern California School of Medicine in Los Angeles. Returning East for his residency in Family Medicine placed him in upstate New York (Rochester to Hamilton). He practiced an active and avid Family Medicine for three decades, in the process heavily involving himself in families under his care. He was privileged to share in the birth of some 1500 babies, a part of his practice he particularly treasured and held close to his heart.

His family life was primary to him, and with great pride he watched his three daughters grow and mature. Grandchildren in later life were an additional special bonus for him, and he cherished them and enjoyed getting to know them. His first love, Carla Moretti, predeceased him succumbing to cancer after an inspiring and noble battle. Her love of life taught him much about life and how it fits into our world. Life was hard going on without her. Thankfully, a new found soulmate and loving wife, Jane Louise William, whose quiet love, companionship and loyal support went a long way to improving his life, and taught him many things about making your feelings apparent to others and helping him communicate.

He had too many outdoor and active pursuits which became more difficult to manage as he became increasingly infirmed. He loved his Adirondack home away from home whenever he could go there. Near the end, he was in the presence of his family, Jane Louise and Hazel.

A memorial service will be held at a time to be announced.
