Obituary for Robert C. Ward

Robert Clark Ward, 87, of Manlius NY went to be home with the Lord on Thursday, April 13, 2017. He passed away in his sleep at the Iroquois Nursing Home in Jamesville after a brief illness.
Bob was born on January 28, 1930 in Cazenovia to Edgar and Clara (Clark) Ward. Bob graduated from Cazenovia High School, and after learning to fly locally spent time flying crop dusting aircraft in the area. He later enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean War as a pilot flying KC-97 tankers. During his service to our nation he was stationed in Enid, Oklahoma and Thule, Greenland.
After the war, Bob became a pilot for Eastern Air Lines and saw the glory years of aviation as the airlines transitioned from propeller to jet aircraft. Bob was a fixture on the Eastern Air Shuttle and flew numerous politicians and celebrities between New York, Washington and Boston. He flew with Eastern for 30 years and enjoyed a long and spotless career.
Bob married Patricia Maguire in 1963 and they lived in Connecticut. They had one son together, Robert (Clark) Jr., who like his father is also an airline pilot. His first wife Patricia passed away in 1979.
Bob married Fay Bobbette of Cazenovia in 1983 and after a short time in Connecticut, moved to Manlius where they have happily resided for the past 33 years. Bob and Fay have been active in various church mission groups over the years and faithful supporters of several Wycliffe Bible Translation missionaries. Bob and Fay enjoyed traveling whether it was to see friends and family around the country or to see the annual Fourth of July Pops concert on the esplanade in Boston.
Bob will forever be remembered for being a gentle man and a gentle soul. Bob always had a kind word and a smile for everyone he came in contact with. His caring nature was spread throughout his family and will we greatly missed by all.
Bob was pre-deceased by his parents, Edgar and Clara and his brother Bernard of Hazlet, N.J.
Bob is survived by his wife Fay, son Robert Jr. and wife Laura, step daughter Coreen Perkins and husband Bob, step daughter Cheryl Sparks, step sons Tim and Terry Bobbette. Grandchildren include Lauren, Hayley and Ian Ward, Erich Sparks, Sarah Mullins and Sadye, Grace and Louis Bobbette.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday, April 19th from 11-12 at Eastern Hills Bible Church, 8277 Cazenovia Rd, Manlius. There will be a celebration of life service afterward at noon followed by a reception in the church with light refreshments.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Visiting Nurses Association of CNY, 1050 West Genesee St., Syracuse. 13204, or the Alzheimer's Association of CNY. 441 West Kirkpatrick St. Syracuse, 13204.
