Obituary for Theresia E. Kallinicos

Theresia E. Kallinicos
Theresia E. Kallinicos (Soden), 75, of Fayetteville, NY, died peacefully at home on March 15, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 30, 1941 in Brooklyn, NY and lived most her life in Park Slope, Bay Ridge, and Shoreham, NY, before moving to Fayetteville in 2015. She graduated from St. Joseph’s College with a Bachelors degree in English and began graduate studies in Education as well. Theresia worked at John Jay High School as an English teacher for 30 years. The joy and fulfillment she derived from a career in public service was also shared by her parents, siblings, husband, son and daughter-in-law—people who dedicated their lives to careers in military service, teaching, nursing, law enforcement, medicine and mental health care.
Terry most loved spending time with her three grandchildren, James, Norah and Keira. She also enjoyed antique shopping, visits to the shore on the Northern coast of Long Island, American literature, natural history, road trips, and good food.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Robert (Pete) Kallinicos; her dear sister, Elizabeth Hansen; and her parents, James and Eleanor Soden. She is survived by her cherished son, Robert Kallinicos and her daughter-in-law, Jen; as well as grandchildren, James, Norah and Keira of Fayetteville, NY. She also leaves behind her brothers, Guy (Virginia) Soden and Bruce Soden, who were frequently in her thoughts and prayers, and their children, of whom she was very proud.
The family wishes to express the deepest appreciation and gratitude for the many compassionate people who cared for Terry over the years, those in Long Island (especially Dr. Kathleen Kohut and her husband, Phil of Richmond Hill, NY; Dr. Ruibado, Dr. Harris, Dr. George of Stony Brook/Mather Hospital) and those in Syracuse (Dr. Tarek Sousou and the HOA team, Dr. Ziegler’s team, and the staff of St. Joseph’s Hospital). Mom remained in awe of the kind and generous spirits she encountered in her life who spent so much time and energy doing their very best for her, year after year. She met many wonderful people during her time on hospice care in the final months. It is because of the efforts of those above (and many more) that she was able to share so many amazing moments with us. Thank you.
Services were private. A memorial for family and friends will be planned for Spring/Summer 2017 on Long Island.
