The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Renate Simson can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Obituary for Renate M. Simson

Renate M. Simson, of Erie Village, passed away peacefully in her sleep. Born in Austria, she earned her doctorate degree from Syracuse University. She taught at SUNY Morrisville for many years and then at Syracuse University for 37 years. Renate had published more than 30 articles and chapters and has given more than 50 presentations at conferences throughout the country and in Austria. Her longtime interest in the inequalities of New York State public schools led to a self-published book in 2007. Her interests include 19th Century African American Literature and Writing Courses.
She traveled extensively and enjoyed her family both overseas and home.
She is survived by her children, Thomas A. Simson of Syracuse and Bonnie M. of Manlius; and grandchildren Jami R. Ryan and Shannon M. Podeswik. She was predeceased by her husband, Brian W. Simson.
Calling hours will be 4:00 to 6:00 pm Thursday at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville. Services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Syracuse University African American Studies Department.
