Obituary for Anne C Maier

Print
Anne C. Maier of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully on Saturday at the age of 93. Born April 8, 1923 in Omaha, Nebraska, she was the daughter of Marguerite T. and Duard B. Colyer. Her father’s career in the US Air Mail service and airline industry resulted in the family living in many states and Canada. Anne graduated from Smith College, Class of 1945, where she majored in music. She worked in retail while her husband attended graduate school at MIT. They settled in Syracuse 66 years ago.
The mother of five children, Anne was a member of Pebble Hill Presbyterian Church, the Onondaga Golf & Country Club, the Century Club, Syracuse Symphony Guild, the Everson Museum and the Smith College Club; and a sustaining member of the Junior League of Syracuse. Anne enjoyed golf, playing the piano and she was an accomplished quilter. A loyal fan of SU basketball, football and lacrosse; one of her happiest moments was when the basketball team won the NCAA Championship on her 80th birthday. Anne loved her family and friends and was very generous.
She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard C. Maier in 1997; sister, Barbara Cotter; and brother, Bill Colyer.
She is survived by her children, Debora M. (David) Webster of Center Harbor, NH, Martha S. Maier of Fayetteville, NY, Elizabeth M. (Doug) Stiles of Waukegan, IL, Terry Maier of Syracuse, NY and John C. (Maureen) Maier of Wenham, MA; sister, Mary Dill of WA; brother, James Colyer of CA; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Elderwood for their compassionate care.
A memorial service will be Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 11:00 am at Pebble Hill Presbyterian Church, 5299 Jamesville Rd., DeWitt. Burial will be private.
