Many people have asked... "Why the sloths"....
When my parents came to visit me in LA for Christmas 2015, one of our adventures was to San Diego for the weekend and a trip to the San Diego Zoo. We had an absolutely fantastic day at the zoo - arriving exactlly at the opening and rushing to see the pandas... I had read that they are actually awake that time of day as a special tour feeds them just prior to park opening. What a fun sight to see the giant panda eating his bamboo! We had a wonderful day at the zoo walking around and seeing every single animal exhibit. Toward the end of the day, I asked my parents what their favorite animal was that day. Mine has always been the tiger but I really liked the white snow panthers that day. Mom loved the koalas.... Dad? He says, "My favorite animal is the Sloth...." I thought he was kidding... but looked on the map and set off to find him a sloth. We stumbled across one of the zoo employees holding a sloth and what a cutie.... We took a few pictures and I didn't think of it any further. When dad became ill a year ago, I decided to cheer him up by putting a picture of his favorite animal on his facebook wall, a sloth. Little did I know that sloths are incredibly adorably, snuggly, hugging and always smiling creatures. Of course they should be dad's favorite animal! I purchased a really cute "plush toy" sloth which dad aptly named Mr Sloth. Mr Sloth sat dutifully beside my dad's computer and helped with his work. I also found a smaller beany baby sloth which was named Slowpoke. Slowpoke went on all of our road trips last year and to Sloan Kettering in New York. I would look back and see dad in the back seat with Slowpoke happily sitting on the arm rest. Slowpoke always went with dad to the hospital and sat beside the phone. He was with dad in the ER one time and nurses would actually stop in to see the little sloth because they'd heard about it. Mr Sloth even visited the hospital in December and was the inpiration for one of the nurses to get her son a stuffed sloth that year.
